Viniculture has enjoyed a long history in Chianti, dating back to the Etruscan era. For example a document of 11 February 1318 advises (already!) on how to make good wine. On the 27 September 1716 the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III, published an edict setting the boundaries of the Chianti wine-growing area, a kind of « Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) » before its time.In 1996 « Chianti Classico », produced in a selected few areas, was awarded the DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), the highest recognition for Italian high-quality wines.
Villa le Barone is situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico, at the centre of the « golden triangle» formed by the towns of Greve, Radda and Castellina in Chianti. We are therefore organizing wine tastings in our own premises as well as in the many wineries around us: Molino di grace, Tenuta Riseccoli, Fontodi, Lamole , Cennatoio… and we have selected a wine menu made up of the best Chianti labels.
You will be also able to taste Vin Santo (Holy Wine) after a nice meal with Cantucci (almond biscuits) as Tuscan do: quite a treat.
Chianti is the country authentic Mediterranean cuisine, and Villa le Barone offers genuine Tuscan cuisine, with local fresh products. Panzano is also the right place to taste the "Bistecca alla Fiorentina", in the world wide famous “Antica Macelleria Cecchini”!
