ACTIVITIES AROUND VILLA LE BARONE 

July - October 2011


There are many activities taking place around Villa le Barone (Greve, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and in Chianti), that our Guests can enjoy. We can book tickets for you! We have selected:

Greve in Chianti:

* Wine festival (Rassegna del Chianti): Thursday 8- Sunday 11 September 2011, in the main square buy one glass and drink all the Chianti Classico wine you want !

* Daniel Ferro Vocal program, with many concerts in the various churches around (www.ferrovocalprogram.org) July 13th –August 4th

* Regular concerts in Lamole: July to October

Panzano in Chianti:

* Market Aprilante every first Sunday of the month: 

The Aprilante Market takes place every first Sunday of the month - local artisans exhibit their wares, while local producers offer honey, cheeses, salumi and much more, including antiques. All shops are open and there is a feeling of "fiesta" in the air.

* Chianti wine festival, on the main square (Vino al Vino) Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 September: buy one glass and drink all the wine you want 

* From July to October, regular concerts in Panzano at the San Leolino Pieve 

Florence:

* Palazzo Strozzi, until 17th July, exhibition “Picasso, Miró, Dalí. Angry Young Men: the Birth of Modernity”, and from 17 September until we close 31 October: Money and Beauty. Bankers, Botticelli and the bonfire of vanities

Siena:

* The horse race “Palio”, 2 July and 16 August, is world renowned. The procession with banners unfurling through the "contrade" (the different neighborhoods of the city), followed by the horse race in the splendid Piazza del Campo, is a breathtaking spectacle.  * Concerts and operas sponsored by the Academia Chigiana during all summer

San Gimignano:

Between June and August, Summer Music Festival is held, with operas on the main square, concerts, and various music events,

Arezzo:

An Antiques’ Market is held in Piazza Grande and throughout the center of Arezzo every first Saturday and Sunday of the month.

Fiesole:

An Antiques’ Market takes place every Sunday.

Certaldo:

From July 13th to 17th the 24 th Cannes International street Theater will take place in the center of Certaldo. The Tuscan village, where Boccace was born, will be flooded with companies, artists, actors, acrobats, craftsmen from various parts of the world, and one will certainly enjoy their performances, songs, concerts, art exhibitions

Colle Val d'Elsa:

Renaissance Fair Jul 2 – 3, 2011, with an historical Renaissance re-evocation in the old town. 

Monteriggioni:

Medieval Fair 8, 9,0 July and 15, 16,17 July 2011 For those two weekends knight tournaments, sieges and battles will take place, and you will admire minstrels, jugglers and many other characters!. Delicious medieval-inspired dishes will be prepared!

Carmignano:

Festa di San Michele (Palio dei Ciuchi) Thursday, Sep 29, 2011: Donkey Tournament

Contemporary art in Chianti. 

Chianti and Tuscany are not just about Renaissance, and wonderful contemporary art is flourishing just next door of Villa le Barone: 

• a 200 meters San Francesco overlooks the Molino di Grace ‘s vineyards, www.molinodigrace.com 

• works by Daniel Buren, Louise Bourgeois, Chen Zen, Cristina Igelias and many other renown artists can be seen at the “Castello di Ama” (http://arte.castellodiama.com), 

• The Sculpture Park of Chianti also contains contemporary sculptures from famous artists from all parts of the world (www.chiantisculpturepark.com). 

You will find at Villa le Barone suggested itineraries to discover this new aspect of Chianti, and many suggestions to discover Tuscany “out of the beaten track”
