Villa le Barone was a wine-producing estate until the 1970s!
During the Renaissance, the villa served as the summer retreat for the renowned Florentine ceramist and sculptor Della Robbia. It was part of a working agricultural and wine estate. After World War I, Marchesa Maria Bianca Viviani Della Robbia managed Villa le Barone as both a wine and olive oil estate. A visionary entrepreneur, writer, and prominent Florentine figure, she was dedicated to modernizing local agricultural techniques and even authored the book, A Farm in Chianti, that you will find in the Villa.
In the 1970s, the agricultural lands and vineyards were sold, and Maria Bianca’s daughter, Duchess Franca Visconti, transformed Villa le Barone into the charming hotel it is today.
