It retains the Romanesque architectural style of Tuscany’s parish churches, with a Renaissance-style portico preceding its façade and a bell tower in the background. Inside, you’ll find a collection of fascinating Renaissance artworks, and Della Robbia tabernacles. Adjacent to the church, a charming and intimate 14th-century cloister adds to its historical appeal.

Certosa di Firenze (less than 45 min by car)

Perched atop a hill south of Florence, the Certosa di Firenze was once one of Europe’s most influential monasteries, housing over 500 works of art before Napoleon’s plundering. Built in 1341 by Niccolò Acciaioli, a prominent Florentine, it served both religious and educational purposes. The church opens onto a vast Renaissance cloister featuring a large well and terracotta works by Andrea and Giovanni della Robbia from the 15th and 16th centuries. The site also contains lunettes painted by Pontormo, dating back to the 16th century.
